Game 90 - vs. Jedi Knights
(33-32)
Hist-O-ry
Did you hear it? The sound of history being made as the Os won their second game in the summer league marking the first time they've won two games in a season. This one being a defense battle between the Os and long time adversaries Jedi Knights with the Os playing hard down the stretch to preserve the win.
Being without some key members(Mr. Smooth, Lil' joe, Charmaine) the Os played inspired D. The formula this time out was to force the Jedi Knights into the middle with some hustling outside movement. When Jedi got to the middle they were met by the O's big men. The Giant recorded three blocks in the game. The team grabbed seven steals. The Os finished the first half with a 4 point lead, 18-14.
The second half followed much of the same pattern. Offensively the Os relied on good passing(7 assists) and high percentage shot selection. But the key to the game was that defense. Big D lived up to his name keeping the Knights from getting hot from the outside. The Os fell behind early in the second half but the clutch 3 point shooting of Duggo brought them back into contention. Then the Giant was sent to the free throw line where he scored the last point of the game for the Os with 2 1/2 minutes left. The Os were out-scored in the second half but held on for the 1 point win, surviving many scoring attempts by Jedi Knights. Final Score 33-32.
Steve-O broke the dreaded "Ophy curse" have a solid game featuring 3 steals and 4 points and an assist thrown in for good measure. Roster Guard continued his important point guard play for the Os regaining his astonishing .500 winning percentage. At the post-game festivities one of the Jedi Knight supporters was heard to say "Who's #23? You set up everything." He notched 8 points and a couple of assists. With one of the lightest O game turnouts in recent memory the voting for the Ophy was thin with 6 individuals including 5 players receiving votes. It came down to E-Bomb and first time stat girl Kirsten getting the only multiple votes. E-Bomb became the first ever 2 time Ophy recipient with 3 votes. E-Bomb led the team in points (9), assists (3), and tied with the Giant for the lead in rebounds (5).
