Governor Gray Davis, I am writing on behalf of a web page I maintain myself entitled Scientific AmeriKen, in which new experiments are performed bi-monthly in various sciences. My current experiment deals with the issue of recycling. As you are probably aware, California charges a redemption value on all aluminum cans purchased at the value of 2.5 cents per can (the Ca. Redemption Value). In the past, this money was easily redeemed at recycling machines for the full amount. Unfortunately, these machines were replaced leaving only recycling centers that redeem not by the guaranteed 2.5 cents per can, but by total weight of the cans. In my experiment, I calculated the amount I should have received (theoretical yield) by counting the number of cans and multiplying by 2.5 cents. I then compared this against the amount I received from recycling centers and found that I was in fact 64 cents short. The reason I write is I would like a check from the state of California for the full amount of 64 cents as guaranteed by the California Redemption Value. This experiment is posted at the site http://members.xoom.com/sciameriken/recycle.htm Scientific AmeriKen is found at http://members.xoom.com/sciameriken/ Thank you Governor Davis for your time and response, Sincerely, Kenneth Ladd Seldeen Scientific AmeriKen
